RackNine has been one of the Super Sponsors of the Cast Reunion of Star Trek at the 2012 Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, where cast members from Star Trek: The Next Generation® came together for the first time in over two decades.
The panel brought together nine primary cast members, including Patrick Stewart(Captain Picard), Jonathan Frakes (William Riker), Levar Burton (Geordi LaForge), Gates McFadden (Dr. Beverly Crusher), Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi), Michael Dorn (Worf), Brent Spiner (Data), Will Wheaton (Wesley Crusher) and Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar). Actually they ended up being ten cast members, because John de Lancie made a surprise appearance to the delight of the numerous fans who congregated at the venue.
Over fifty thousand fans attended the weekend event, with the highlight of the convention being the TNG:EXPOsed event which took place Saturday evening. The Next Generation cast shared stories, which brought both laughter and tears to the audience, who had the opportunity to ask questions to the actors.
The event solidified Alberta’s position as a genuine Trekkie hub, something increasingly established in recent years thanks to past Expo appearances by Leonard Nimoy (Mr. Spock), George Takei (Mr. Sulu) and William Shatner (Captain Kirk) as well as the emergence of Alberta ville Vulcan (same name as Spock’s home planet) as a Trek-themed tourist spot.
